How STL Parrot monitors your 3D designs
A marketplace photograph is a lead to investigate. STL Parrot brings reference images, possible matches and review into a workflow in which you decide whether a seller has permission.
Start with a reference you can compare
Register a design with clear reference images. Include a recognizable silhouette and close views of distinctive details: folds, joints, a base or a repeated pattern. Images of the finished print can help when a listing shows a physical object rather than a digital render.
Registration adds a design to your library. Activating protection is a separate step that puts it into monitoring and uses a protection slot. Start with designs that matter most to your current catalog; a large library does not mean every model is being monitored.
Find candidates, then review their context
STL Parrot compares listings from enabled sources with protected designs. Visual similarity may remain when a seller changes the photograph, angle, background or finish. It can also arise between unrelated objects, so a candidate is not a finding of infringement.
A person reviews possible matches before an alert reaches the creator. When you review the images, look for several distinctive features together. Check the listing and seller context, rather than relying on color or one familiar shape. Low quality or missing images can limit what can be identified.
Make the authorization decision
You know your commercial permissions and seller relationships. Compare the seller with your own license records before treating a listing as unauthorized. An active license, an older agreement or a shop name you do not recognize may explain a match.
STL Parrot does not automatically remove listings or send claims. Marketplace coverage depends on enabled, compatible sources and availability may change. Etsy is the first integration; Wallapop has had limited manual validation, with automatic acquisition disabled.
- Compare the model and the listing side by side.
- Check permission, design version and relevant dates.
- Keep uncertain cases open for more context instead of treating similarity as proof.
Questions about this topic
Can the system find every use of a model?
No. Coverage depends on enabled sources and available listing images. Visual matching has limitations, and the examples on the home page do not establish an accuracy rate.
Does adding a design start monitoring automatically?
No. Library registration and protection activation are separate steps. Review the current access conditions and available protection slots before activating a design.
